Combining Risperidone and SSRIs (Benefit Vs Side Effects)
Hi Friends,
How effective is Risperidone and SSRIs combination.
According to Kaplan and Sadock:
Combining Risperidone with SSRI can cause prolactin elevation. What is the mechanism of prolactin elevation here.
On PubMed Search, found following articles:
(1) Combination of Risperidone and Fluvoxamine from the beginning of antidepressant therapy enhances the therapeutic response rate in depression (PubMed PMID: 12197455).
(2) Caution to clinicians treating elderly patients with combined risperidone and SSRIs to include serotonin syndrome in differential diagnosis if the patient is showing signs of increasing agitation with escalating doses of risperidone (PubMed PMID: 12639169)
