1) Acc. to DSM-IV TR for diagnosis of somatization disorder the symptoms must begin before the age of 30 yrs and should be present for several years.
at least 8 idiopathic physical symptoms encompassing 4 systems must be present,i.e 4 pain symptoms,2 git symptoms other than pain,one pseudoneurological symptom and one sexual or reproductive system symptom.

2) Hypochondriasis diagnosis is made if symptoms are present for at least 6 months.
