American Academy of Sleep Medicine- Practice Guidelines
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) sets the clinical standards for the fields of sleep medicine health care, education and research by publishing Practice Parameters, Systematic Reviews, Clinical Guidelines and Best Practice Guides.
AASM Practice Parameters provide physicians with evidence-based recommendations for the evaluation and management of patients with sleep disorders based on the latest medical research. Practice Parameters are developed by the Standards of Practice Committee based on the summary of evidence presented in Systematic Review papers.
Clinical Guidelines provide physicians with comprehensive recommendations for the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with sleep disorders. These guidelines are developed by a task force of experts who combine evidence-based Practice Parameters with consensus-based recommendations to provide overall treatment strategies for patients.
Best Practice Guides provide the best recommendations possible on topics of narrow scope with little high-quality evidence until further research is reported.
Each paper is reviewed by independent content experts and approved by the AASM Board of Directors. All papers are reviewed at least every 5 years and updated as necessary.
